A 4:3 Orwellian factory, and two sources that disagree about who shot it
Nominated for cinematography at the BSC Awards 2026. Two reputable sources name two different cinematographers, and we are not going to guess which is right.
Watch on YouTube"Illusions" was shot in Hungary in 1.33:1, which is already a decision worth noticing: a squared-off frame around a story that Directors' Library summarises as "a factory worker trapped in a loop within a tightly controlled, Orwellian world". A boxed aspect ratio for a character who cannot get out is not subtle, and does not need to be.
It was nominated for Cinematography In A Music Video at the BSC Awards 2026.
The problem
Promonews names the BSC nominee as Rui Jiang. Directors' Library and the official YouTube credit block both name the director of photography as RJ Ong. These could plausibly be the same person, initials and all, but no source we can reach states that.
So we are printing both, saying they conflict, and not resolving it by guessing. A cinematography publication that quietly picks the likelier-sounding name is not doing its job.

"Conveyor builder" is our favourite credit of the year. Someone built a working conveyor for a music video and the production credited them for it.
